Memmingen - In a celebratory setting, the fire brigades, the emergency services, the police and the technical relief organization were thanked for their ongoing, committed and selfless efforts.
In addition, honors were awarded for 25 years, 40 years and 50 years of volunteer work.
The guests of honor at this blue light reception were representatives of the volunteer fire brigade, the police, the THW and the other aid organizations, Minister of State Klaus Holetschek, the mayor and honorary citizens of the city of Memmingen as well as the representatives of the city council groups and the fire department officer Jürgen Kolb. Annette Weber on the accordion and Constanze Kraus provided the successful musical framework for the evening.
In his opening speech, on behalf of the city and its residents, Mayor Manfred Schilder thanked the organizations with their many voluntary helpers and also the police authorities who guarantee this high level of safety for the city of Memmingen “day and night at all times”. “They are all there around the clock when it comes to saving human lives and protecting nature and property. Every day you look after our safety, protection and help for our people with great commitment. The high security standard is a matter of course for us. However, countless hours of volunteer work with a lot of passion and willingness to help are necessary to maintain this security. Our special thanks also go to the employers and authorities,who release their employees in the event of an emergency. The patience of the spouses and life partners must also be praised, who so often have to do without their partners, who then provide the - sometimes not harmless - help on site for the benefit of their fellow human beings. "
City fire chief Raphael Niggl also took up this thread. He found that selfless togetherness seems to have become increasingly rare in today's society. Often people who seek direct help for their fellow human beings regardless of their own appointments, obligations and leisure activities are hindered by other people in their rescue work and often treated with disrespect. "We all know these bad incidents," said Niggl. The longstanding, voluntary work should be classified all the higher. Living community, consideration and tolerance are, in his opinion, the values that characterize the blue light family. Without these values, dealing with damaging events and disasters would not even be possible. And that is why the honor of receiving the blue light goes precisely to these people.
