The nationwide demonstrations were organized by the activist coalition, called the Sudanese Trade Union Confederation (SPA), which was part of the organization of the 2019 uprising in Sudan that led to the overthrow of President Omar al-Bashir.

The SPA demands the shutdown of the country's civilian transitional government, and calls on protesters to join the "million-man march" against the military takeover.
