District - The Committee for Culture, Education, Sport and Volunteering recently unanimously approved cultural funding of 100,000 euros annually for the Füssen Festival Hall. “With the Festspielhaus we have a facility in the district with supra-regional charisma that offers culture in many facets. With the funding, we want to contribute to maintaining and continuing this high-quality and unique cultural offer for rural areas, ”says District Administrator Maria Rita Zinnecker, explaining the motivation behind the committee.

Funding for the district is part of an overall package that the city of Füssen, the district of Ostallgäu and the district of Swabia are putting together with the Free State of Bavaria and which Zinnecker played a key role in.

The aim is for the Free State of Bavaria to provide 600,000 euros, the Swabian district 150,000 euros, the Ostallgäu district 100,000 euros and the city of Füssen 50,000 euros annually.

Doors in Munich are open

A key funding principle of the Free State of Bavaria is the principle of subsidiarity. This means that state funding by the Free State requires that there is also a municipal contribution to the overall funding, i.e. that the city, district and district also commit funds. “The doors in Munich for cultural funding for the Festspielhaus are open like never before, we just have to go through. We as the district and the city of Füssen have now taken the first step, "says Zinnecker, who is happy about the unanimous result and is now hoping for a positive decision by the district assembly.

As part of the funding, the Festspielhaus must prove annually that all public funding is used exclusively for cultural purposes.

Funding for other losses is not eligible, as the public financial support does not constitute economic aid or subsidy, but rather cultural funding.

If profits are made in the Festspielhaus in individual years, the funding would have to be paid back.

In addition to funding for the Festspielhaus, the Culture Committee has also approved funding for the MODfestivals in Marktoberdorf, the Orff Days of the Bavarian Philharmonic and the Königswinkel Music Festival, both in Füssen.
