The Gewald campaign may turn out to be a double-edged sword Israel today

It is difficult to ignore the gap between the opposition's confidence in passing the budget, and the coalition's power to do so. Act • Opinion

It is difficult not to notice the gap between the assessments in the media, as well as in the opposition, about the coalition's ability to pass the budget relatively easily, and the government's panic about this ability and the power it has been planting among its components in recent times.

If such a doubt does exist, it indicates first and foremost how fragile the government is as it is reflected in the eyes of its leaders.

What good are formulations and declarations that "we are a different government" as Bennett said, if he and his other leaders do not even believe in themselves and their ability to pass an important vote in the Knesset on which their fate depends?

If the budget falls, which does not seem reasonable at all, the government can only blame itself.

If there are MKs or more who will raise the miracle of the revolt at the last minute, it can be determined that those who gave the go-ahead for it are Naftali Bennett, Yair Lapid and Avigdor Lieberman themselves, with their insecurity and the sense of pressure they scatter everywhere. Who runs away from him, even if he had no such intention.

Of course, there is another possibility: that the sense of power is intentionally amplified to emphasize the magnitude of success after the fact.

That they can pat each other on the back, and create the impression that after the coalition has passed the test - nothing, therefore, will be possible for it.

But this plan, if it exists, may turn out to be a double-edged sword.

Knesset members from the back benches, who see the clashes at the top, are convinced that after the budget it will be possible to untie any restraint.

That there is no longer a need for artificial glue that unites the ranks of the government, and that it has been heard that it is possible to fight back on principles that have been frozen in a deep freeze since its inception.

The State of Israel needs a budget of almost two years, since the previous budget expired, but not the current proposed budget;

A budget that makes up the political money that is in it is vast and greater than any budget that has passed before it, and that the citizens of Israel will pay for it.

A budget without internal logic and all its decrees seem like whimsical plans that have been formulated for years in the Treasury, ones that failed to market to any government and finance minister until the current ones came.

This is what it will look like when Israeli residents start paying for expensive drinking bottles, on the illusory claim of maintaining good health, while the rest of the unhealthy foods - cakes, sweets and high-calorie snacks - will be sold at an equal price per person.

Or when the government claims that it wants to reduce the use of private vehicles through a congestion charge and a rise in parking tariffs, simultaneously raises public transport tariffs so that we will enrich its coffers in whatever way we choose to move.

At least the Netflix tax was not justified in that the government wants people to get up from their seats and start doing more sports, and if it was not at our expense - it could have been funny too.
