Lack of care, child welfare endangerment, war games during the break: a Freising elementary school sounds the alarm, the youth welfare committee reacts.

Lack of care, child welfare endangerment, war games during the break: a Freising elementary school sounds the alarm, the youth welfare committee reacts.

Freising

- If the district has its way, a part-time position for youth social work will be set up at the St. Korbinian elementary school in Freising. The school management's description of the increasing number of children with psychosomatic symptoms convinced the youth welfare committee to help finance a 60 percent part-time position. Only one district council voted against it: Johannes Huber (AfD). Now the city of Freising has to agree.

Childhood depression and anxiety disorders, but also family stress factors, led to different forms of school avoidance, according to the school management in its application.

There are a few suspected cases of endangering the welfare of children, schoolchildren show insufficient care with personal hygiene, clothing and support with school tasks, children also have "sometimes high psychological stress" due to custody disputes.

In the breaks, but also during school hours, children play war games based on the model of video games and films.

Action program "Catching up after Corona" provides support

And last but not least, there are always psychological and physical violence between the students.

All of these problems have led the teaching staff to their time and professional limits in recent years, explained the school management.

That is why the state education authority also considers the creation of a position for youth social work to be "urgently" necessary.

(By the way: Everything from the region is now also available in our regular Freising newsletter.)

The administration followed this request and suggested setting up a part-time position (60 percent of a full-time position).

The annual costs for such a position should be around 36,000 euros.

Until July 31, 2023, as a result of the federal action program “Catching up after Corona for children and young people”, you will receive a monthly grant of 2,454 euros, which corresponds to an annual subsidy of almost 29,500 euros.

The remainder - a good 7,000 euros per year - is shared between the district and the city of Freising.

And that is why the Freising City Council is also asked to create the position.

From August 1, 2023, the monthly funding for the youth social worker position at the Korbinian School will be 818 euros - i.e. 9816 euros per year.

Only one district council votes against youth social work

The great majority of the district councils did not question the usefulness and necessity of this position.

However, Johannes Huber (AfD) asked what the reasons for such a development at the St. Korbinian School were.

The administration's answer: This is not a specific problem of the Korbinian school or the type of school, but a phenomenon that can be observed almost everywhere.

When voting, all members of the youth welfare committee voted for the creation of the position.

Huber wanted to abstain from what was going on in the Bundestag, but not in the district council.

District Administrator Helmut Petz emphasized: “There is no abstention.

Confess your position! "Huber's answer after a brief reflection:" Then a no. "
