A man was killed and nine other people were injured in a shooting at a Halloween party in East Texas, police said.
The shooting occurred late Saturday at the Octavia Event Center in Texarkana, the city police department reported in a press release.
Located about 180 miles (290 km) east of Dallas, Texarkana sits on the Texas-Arkansas border.

Police estimated that "at least 200 people" were at the scene when the shots were fired.
The agents "encountered a large number of people fleeing the building and several people inside suffering gunshot wounds," according to the statement.

The 10 people who were wounded by gunshot wounds were taken to two hospitals for treatment, either by ambulance, in a police unit or in a private vehicle, according to the police.
A 20-year-old "died shortly after" in one of the hospitals
, police added.
His name was not released.
Police said the injuries of the other nine people did not appear to be life-threatening.

The alleged perpetrator was "described as a black man, who left in an unknown vehicle after the shooting," police said.
"Although the motive is still unknown, the preliminary investigation indicates that it may be the result of some kind of disturbance among some of the partygoers," the statement added.
