Director Monika Schweiger lives in Dorfen and has found the main character for her new film for Kika in her hometown: the six-year-old refugee girl Beti.

Dorfen

- Beti and her big sister Arsiema (16) have a big appearance on Kika on Monday.

The six-year-old from Dorfen is the main character in an episode of the series “I am I” on the children's television station.

It is a Dorfen production through and through: The two girls from an Eritrean refugee family live in an accommodation on site.

For the shoot, they visit Katharina Stahr's sewing café, and the director Monika Schweiger also lives in the city on the Isen.

“Beti sews a dress” is the title of the seven-minute long film.

This is exactly what happens under the guidance of Stahr.

With the charm of a self-confident six-year-old, Beti comments on every step and tells about the difficult life in an accommodation for refugees.

"I am a children's media producer with all my heart," says Monika Schweiger.

The 38-year-old took this path straight after graduating from high school in the Bavarian Forest.

“I wanted to do something creative that would make the world a little better,” says the mom of two boys aged one and three.

Because: “The reality is that many children are parked in front of the television.

If they are already looking, then at least something good. ”Like“ Beti sews herself a dress ”.

The film allows a loving and respectful look at a child of a refugee family.

"I wanted to show that too."

The filmmaker was already an editor at Kika in Erfurt and worked on the children's programs of BR and WDR.

She now has a permanent position at an international family entertainment company and is filming for Kika as a freelancer.

“As a mother, I changed my view of existing formats,” reports Schweiger.

She sees that some things go down well that she would have rejected during her studies in Augsburg or at the IZI children's media research institute.

With today's inundation of children with media offers, their task is all the more important.

Broadcast date:

at Kika on Monday, November 1st, at 9.25 a.m.

The film is then available in the media library.
