Defense Minister Bnei Gantz today (Sunday) submitted to the Government Secretariat the proposed decision to establish a state commission of inquiry into the submarine and vessel procurement case.

"The establishment of the committee is necessary for the defense establishment and the State of Israel," Ganz said.

The proposal will be discussed only after the state budget is approved, and it is coordinated with the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The defense minister stressed that the proposal was submitted "at the end of thorough staff work."

He said, "This is not a personal matter - but a national need. This is an issue that is at the heart of the defense system, and constitutes a paramount security need in order to maintain the citizens' trust in it and in the decision-makers."

The committee's discussions will take place behind closed doors due to security sensitivity, with the exception of discussions in which classified information should not come up.

The committee will also submit its report to the Knesset's Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee.

The commission of inquiry will examine the decision-making of the political echelon and the conduct that took place between the National Security Headquarters in the Prime Minister's Office and the Ministry of Defense on the issue of vessels and submarines.

The committee will also recommend changes to the defense procurement's strategic procurement procedures and the involvement of former senior officers in defense procurement transactions.

According to the draft resolution, the mandate for the committee will be relatively extensive and will include an examination of the purchase of protective ships for gas rigs, the purchase of submarines, the privatization of shipyards, the purchase of anti-submarine ships (a proposal raised by the Prime Minister's Office). Agreement to sell submarines to a third party ": The green light that Netanyahu allegedly gave German Chancellor Merkel to sell advanced submarines to Egypt.

The Movement for Quality of Government congratulated Defense Minister and Justice Minister Gideon Saar on the proposal: "Today we are taking the first step in the last line. We still have a long way to go to remove the black cloud that lies over the affair," they said.

"Now the ball is in the hands of the prime minister - and we expect him to promote the establishment of the committee without further delay. Revealing the truth in this sensitive affair is a first-rate public interest."

In July, Defense Minister Bnei Gantz and Justice Minister agreed to examine the establishment of a state commission of inquiry into the submarine affair. It was also reported that their offices will open with a discussion and staff work to examine Ganz's proposal on the subject. It was also stated that the Attorney General, Avichai Mandelblit, will participate in the process while paying attention to the criminal law that is being conducted in the context of the affair.

So far, Saar has expressed opposition to the establishment of a commission of inquiry into the submarine affair, and last month a confrontation broke out between him and Ganz over the defense minister's intention to advance the issue. There are disagreements within the government about the need for a commission of inquiry - while Gantz and chairman Yad Lapid support and are interested in establishing such a committee, the right and a new hope are considered those who oppose. Indicates a desire for compromise and progress.

At a meeting between Prime Minister Naftali Bennett and German Chancellor Angela Merkel this month, Bennett said that after taking office he asked the defense establishment to reconsider the submarine deal with Germany, and according to the updated position Israel is interested in fulfilling the contract to replace the old submarines in the coming years. Political involvement in the contents of the meeting.
