Iran's passive defense commander said the online offensive that paralyzed his country's fuel system was "sophisticated and difficult to handle" • Three days after the incident, some of the country's gas stations are still closed

The Commander of the Passive Defense Force of the Revolutionary Guards, General Golmarza Jalili, today (Sunday) blamed Israel and the United States for the cyber attack that silenced the country's gas stations and caused severe disruptions, some of which have not yet been repaired.

"The cyber attack we have experienced is similar to what we have seen in the past on the train and port array and we are convinced that it was carried out by the Zionists or the Americans," Jalili said in an interview with a state television channel.

"According to information we have from initial analysis, the attack was carried out by a foreign country, with an emphasis on Israel or the United States, but we can not yet determine with certainty the source of the attack until the investigation is finally completed," the Iranian general added.

"As we are now Chinese, it was necessary to infiltrate the software system to cause damage and we suspect that a local company may have knowingly or unknowingly assisted the attack, or that someone in Iran assisted the hackers," Jalili added.

"It was a sophisticated attack, difficult to locate and difficult to resolve," the general added.

During the interview, Jalili protested the lack of budget for his organization, which includes Iran's cyber defense system, and said that the previous government "transferred zero budgets to necessary actions to protect the country."

The accusation of the Rouhani government has become a breakthrough among senior Iranian officials, as part of an attempt by the Revolutionary Guards and the Conservative faction in the Islamic Republic to distance itself from the Rouhani administration's policies.

Commander of the Passive Defense Force of the Revolutionary Guards, Golmarza Jalili,

State media reported that some gas stations in Iran were still closed, three days after the attack that paralyzed the fuel array across Iran.

The attack hit some 4,300 in Iran in one way or another, with some stations being returned to manual use within hours.

In addition to hitting gas stations, the hackers broke into billboards and digital signs on the country’s highways and displayed anti-regime slogans.
