Syria and Pakistan signed today a memorandum of understanding stipulating the formation of a joint working group for commercial and economic affairs, comprising representatives of the ministries and concerned authorities in the two countries.
The 5-year agreement aims to find a mechanism to follow up on the development of trade and economic relations between the two countries, especially with regard to implementing investment projects, concluding commercial deals, organizing exhibitions and forums, and exploring opportunities and promising areas for cooperation.
The memorandum was signed on the Syrian side by the Minister of Economy and Foreign Trade, Dr. Samer Al-Khalil, and on the Pakistani side, the Pakistani ambassador in Damascus, Saeed Muhammad Khan, on behalf of the Minister of Commerce of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan.
Minister Al-Khalil explained in a press statement following the signing of the memorandum that relations between the two countries are witnessing a tangible development at the economic and commercial levels, noting that the volume of trade exchange between the two countries doubled during the first nine months of this year by 100 percent compared to the same period in 2020.
Minister Al-Khalil stressed that the joint working committees will be an important tool to raise the level of trade relations between the two countries and mobilize energies in the business sector to be a present partner between the two countries to enhance investment work and trade exchange.
For his part, the Pakistani ambassador praised the excellent brotherly relations between his country and Syria, indicating that the deep relationship between the two countries is rooted, stressing that the memorandum of understanding will open new horizons for cooperation in the economic field and activate bilateral trade exchange.
