Region - The Bio-Ring Allgäu has presented the newly published shopping guide at the organic autumn market in Obergünzburg.

The collection of regional and organic producers and service providers from the Allgäu appears every three years.

This year, with 560 supplier addresses on 84 pages, it is bigger than ever in its 34-year history.

Christineheels, managing director of the Bio-Ring Allgäu, pointed out at the presentation that the number of organic farms with direct sales has remained constant.

However, there was growth in almost all other areas, such as solidarity agriculture (SoLaWi), natural food and cheese shops, as well as farm dairies and market gardens.

There were even so many new addresses for breweries, bulk stores and processing companies that they are now listed in their own categories.

“The organic buying guide is excellent information for consumers,” said Obergünzburg's mayor, Lars Leveringhaus, in his welcoming address.

He expressed the hope that this could also create an incentive for the producers to switch to organic food production.

Miriam Marihart, the new project manager of the eco-model region Günztal, also welcomed the update of the organic buying guide, "because it makes a valuable contribution to raising awareness of the regional identity". At the presentation of the new issue, she also presented some current projects: The first harvest of the black bean as a regional soy supplier in the Günztal could be brought in in mid-October. The first trial processing in the Günzach tempeh factory can now begin. Two other organic farmers have successfully propagated various old, local grain varieties, such as the spelled variety “Babenhausener Vesen”, and are now actively looking for processors with innovative ideas to develop a special product from the Günztal.Further information is available from Miriam Marihart by phone 0170/9170356 or by email oekomodellregion@oberguenzburg.de.
