Kita, a German shepherd dog, helped county agents in Florida detect the mysterious bulge in the trunk of a car that was stopped for speeding.

Thousands of kilos of drugs were hidden in the last place anyone would think of.

Spread over seven domestic pressure cookers, authorities in a Florida county found nearly 8,000 pounds of marijuana hidden inside a car that was stopped for speeding.

The car was traveling on State Highway 70 in Desoto County last Thursday when police officers ordered the two occupants to park.

Maykel Capetillo and Ysabel Betancourt were arrested and

face charges for drug trafficking offenses, since they did not have licenses for the possession of marijuana for therapeutic use

, which is legal in Florida.

The drug was detected with the help of a dog that goes by the name of Kita, a German shepherd trained to detect narcotics, said the Sheriff's Office, which shared several images of the officers, the animal and the seized cargo.

When agents searched the trunk of the car, the dog smelled under a blanket where the seven pots were located, the contents of which were valued at almost $ 15,000.

"Way to go K9 Kita!"

, the Sheriff's Office congratulated the dog.

"During Sergeant Proudfit's traffic stop for speeding, K9 Kita sniffed the vehicle and alerted his handler, Detective Friend, that there was something in the trunk. He was right!"

According to the police, it is not uncommon for drug traffickers to use pressure cookers to transport these substances, as these sealed containers block their odor.
