London, SANA- Britain has given France 48 hours to retract its threats in the dispute over fishing rights

London-Sana

Britain has given France 48 hours to back down from its threats in the row over fishing rights, warning of legal action over the dispute talks set out in the European Union's exit deal.

British Foreign Secretary Liz Truss said in a statement carried by Sky News: "France has made unreasonable threats regarding the Channel Islands and the fishing sector, and it must withdraw these threats, otherwise we will use the mechanisms of the trade agreement with the European Union to take action."

Truss added that this measure would be to use the dispute mechanism in accordance with the post-Brexit trade agreement to seek compensatory measures.

French President Emmanuel Macron had threatened the United Kingdom with retaliatory measures as of today if it did not change its position on the fishing file.
