Hello, I am Dr. Elmer Huerta and this is your dose of information about the new coronavirus, information that we hope will be useful to take care of your health and that of your family.

Today we will answer some questions that we have been asked on our Twitter account @DrHuerta.

Questions about the side effects of the covid-19 vaccine

One consultation, my 76-year-old mother already has 2 doses of pfizer.

With the 2nd dose he had a rash, fever.

It was controlled with paracetamol and chlorphenamine maleate 4mg and the rash on the thighs, near the armpits, and the English subsided.

The 3rd dose is coming and she is afraid of having the reactions again.

Hi Katalina.

What strikes me about your description are the hives or rashes that your mother had after the vaccination.

If that is an allergy, it is possible that it will recur after receiving the same vaccine.

I regret not being able to give you direct advice, but I think you should consult with your family doctor, who will be able to give an opinion if what she had was an allergy.

@drhuerta I am the mother of a 6-month-old breastfeeding baby and I received the second dose of Sputnik at the beginning of the month, it turns out that during the whole month I had 3 mastitis pictures on the side where I was given the vaccine, may it have to do with that?

- Andrea (@Andybeth) October 28, 2021

Hello Andrea.

Mastitis - or inflammation of the mammary glands - is very common in women who are breastfeeding.

We have no information that mastitis is related to the covid-19 vaccine.

It could be a coincidence.

Questions about combination vaccines

@drhuerta good evening I am writing to you from Quito Ecuador, the government intends to vaccinate those over 65 with AZTRASENECA, most of us have the 2 doses of PFIZER. Will we

have problems ????

Your help please

- @ mashiedu09 (@ mashiedu09) October 30, 2021

Hi Mashi, good question.

In the United States, a person who received the Pfizer vaccine is allowed to receive a booster from it, Moderna, or Johnson & Johnson.

Since the latter is a viral vector vaccine, as is the one from AstraZeneca, it is possible that they could be combined, however, we do not know of studies that prove it.

It is possible that the Ecuadorian Ministry of Health has studies on this combination, which in that case it should share with the public.

Greetings Dr. Alejandro Bello from Venezuela.

I have a full immunization with Sinovac Verocell.

I can get immunized again with the Janseen after a month.

Thanks.

Your contribution is excellent.

- Alejandro Mateo Bello Faria (@alejandrobellof) October 27, 2021

Hello Alejandro.

I don't think that is necessary.

Studies have shown that protection from two-dose vaccines lasts for at least six months, which is why booster is indicated after that time.

The exception is the Johnson & Johnson single-dose vaccine, in which case the booster dose two months after the first has been recommended.

Questions about post-vaccination infection

If I have had the two doses of sinovac for more than four months, and I had covid lve a week ago, how long should I wait to get the third dose.

- Cristina Flores (@CristinaHelLuth) October 29, 2021

Hello Cristina.

There would be no problem waiting up to 90 days after discharge to receive your booster dose.

That is how long the natural protection provided by the recent infection lasts.

Greetings doctor the next day I received the second dose of sinopharm I started with symptoms of rhinitis I lost my sense of smell and I had a fever. Am I infected with the virus?

- Leyug (@ Leyug1) October 27, 2021

Hello, Leyug.

Yes, you may have been vaccinated while already infected.

There are no reports that the vaccine causes loss of smell.

Now you must wait for your booster dose, according to the schedule determined in your country.

Other questions about vaccines

Greetings @drhuerta

What is known about vaccinating children under 18 with the Sinopharm vaccine?

- Maira (@mairagl) October 28, 2021

Hi, Maira.

So far, China has been using the Sinopharm vaccine in children under 18 years of age since July 2020 and Argentina started applying it just a couple of weeks ago.

For its part, the United Arab Emirates began a phase 3 study last June to demonstrate the efficacy and safety of the Sinopharm vaccine in this sector of the population.

Finally, a phase 1 and 2 study, published in The Lancet on September 15 this year, reported that the Sinopharm vaccine was effective and safe in children ages 3 to 17.

Hello Dr. Elmer Huerta I would like to answer my question, I have 2 doses of sinopharm and 2 weeks have passed.

Can I get a tattoo normally or are there any complications?

And the tattoo will lower my immunity defense I heard things

- Mark (@ Mark15618990) October 28, 2021

Hello Mark.

There is no contraindication so that, two weeks after completing your vaccination, you can get a tattoo.

Remember that the vaccine does not lower a person's defense system or make them more susceptible to infection.

On the contrary, the vaccine causes the production of antibodies that protect against the virus or bacteria against which it is directed.

@drhuerta hello dear Dr. ... I am from Nicaragua and I have a big question about the Cuban vaccines that are being applied to children ... I have an 11-year-old girl ... you think it is recommended that I vaccinate her and what would be the risks for her if she receives this vaccine

- We are Nica (@ Isotelo9) October 28, 2021

Hi, Nica.

The efficacy reports of Cuban vaccines have not yet been published in medical journals, and are based on press releases from their manufacturers in Cuba.

That is not uncommon for it to happen, because despite the fact that these types of announcements also occurred with the vaccines that are used so far, the laboratories rushed to publish the respective scientific studies.

My 17-year-old niece was vaccinated in the US in the fortnight of June with the 1st dose of Pfizer, but could not return for the 2nd dose.

Now in Peru in November they will vaccinate children under 17 with Pfizer, which recommends, that you get vaccinated with the 2 doses or only apply one dose? Thank you.

- Luiscusto (@ Luiscusto2) October 27, 2021

Hi Luis, good question.

She should receive a single dose of the Pfizer vaccine, which would complete the vaccination schedule, which is two doses.

Doc, is there any proof that you're immunized after completing the vaccination doses?

- Perulais 🇵🇪 (@perulais) October 27, 2021

Hello, Perulais.

In recent months, the measurement of neutralizing antibodies to determine whether the vaccine has worked or not has been promoted in various countries.

Both the FDA, in the United States, and the World Health Organization advise against the use of these tests because they are not standardized and the interpretation of the results is difficult.

Questions about booster doses of the covid-19 vaccine

Afternoon doctor.

I got vaccinated with 1 dose of Johnson and Johnson in early June.

You mention on the CNN podcast that I can get the booster with Pfizer at 2 months.

Can I get the brace even if it's been 5 months? Thank you very much.

- Giulivr (@ Giulivr2) October 28, 2021

Hi Giuli.

Sure, there would be no problem if you get the Johnson & Johnson booster dose five months after receiving it.

What's more, the vast majority of Americans will receive it six months later.

@drhuerta, good morning: the third booster dose is in its composition equal to the 1st and 2nd.

?

- olf @ logos (@olfuentes) October 27, 2021

Very good question, Olf.

The booster doses of the Pfizer and Johnson & Johnson vaccines are the same as the former.

However, Moderna's vaccine will use only half the starting dose.

The first two doses have 100 micrograms of vaccine, the booster only 50.

@drhuerta

I read an article on CNN where you answer questions that people have about vaccines.

The article has time, an apology.

My question is;

How risky is it for a person to get 4 doses of the same vaccine?

In this case Astra Zeneca.

(Continued in another tweet)

- Hugo Ortega (@Hug_ortega) October 26, 2021

Hello Hugo.

There are no studies that allow me to give an answer to your question.

It is possible that getting vaccinated repeatedly will not cause any problems, but the important thing is to determine what is the use of doing that, that is, getting vaccinated repeatedly.

It wouldn't make any sense.

Questions about covid-19: contagion and side effects

Doctor, I have a friend where everyone in his family had covid, everyone except him has been vaccinated, however, everyone has lost hair and they think it has been the effect of the vaccine or the covid per se. Is there anything that relates to the covid / vaccine with hair loss?

Thanks.

- Fabricio Ismael Murillo (@fabricioism) October 25, 2021

Hi Fabricio, that's a good question.

According to the American Academy of Dermatology, an association between covid-19 and hair loss has been demonstrated.

The explanation is that, like any type of acute infection, it is possible for a person to suffer hair loss during convalescence.

On the other hand, the vaccine has not been reported to be related to hair loss.

The good news is that hair grows back smoothly.

Hello, an apology for my question.

If I contract covid, can I get sick again in less than a month ???

- Ángeles Pacheco (@ngeles_v) October 25, 2021

Hello, Angels.

Although it is possible to have covid-19 twice, its frequency seems to be rare, around 1%.

Although cases of reinfection have been described at two months, we are not aware of two infections being demonstrated in one month.

What is known is that having a positive test within the first three months after the initial infection can be a false positive of the molecular test, caused by the elimination of remnants of the virus.

@drhuerta please talk about the neurological effects of COVID.

Is there a relationship between covid and cerebral infarction?

Have strokes increased in the last two years?

- Karina Villagómez (@ponkatwit) October 30, 2021

Hi Karina.

As we heard in the episode of May 13, 2021, SARS-CoV-2 directly affects the brain, producing a series of complications ranging from headaches to severe cases of encephalitis.

In addition, there is some evidence that COVID-19 patients may have a slightly increased risk of suffering ischemic strokes, that is, strokes, both during their hospitalization and after being discharged.

Do you have questions about covid-19?
