The 9th Hong Kong Outstanding Volunteer Award Presentation Ceremony hosted by the Volunteer Service Development Council was held today (1st). The event aims to recognize volunteers who have made outstanding achievements and contributions in voluntary work.

One of the award-winning volunteers was a recipient, thinking that the volunteers are like angels, giving her different energies, making her aspiration to become an "angel" for others since she was a child, and to pass on her care.

There are also volunteers who have experienced great changes in their lives and are committed to promoting organ donation and providing relief to the sick as fellow travellers.

The 9th Hong Kong Outstanding Volunteer Award Presentation Ceremony, which is held every two years, is held today. The event aims to commend volunteers and also hopes to promote the spirit of voluntary work.

There are 13 award winners and organizations this year, of which 5 are award-winning volunteers. They span different sectors, including teachers, psychotherapists, rehabilitators, rehabilitated organ transplants, and balloon twisters. They also perform voluntary work. Very extensive.

Huang Minghui, whose skin and organs were affected to varying degrees due to severe drug allergy symptoms at the age of 8, was one of the award-winning volunteers.

She recalled that her childhood allergies caused various problems in her body and lost her eyesight. Her life was once in danger. "My grandmother said that I had 60 or 70 pounds before I was hospitalized, and I had to return 30 pounds when I got out of the hospital."

Huang Minghui was taken care of by medical staff in the hospital. After being discharged from the hospital, she was unable to attend the school for the blind due to her frailty. She could only stay in the mainstream school to study. Teachers of s are also very concerned about her. Volunteers visit her frequently, which makes her feel warm.

"Volunteer is an attitude to life"

Huang Minghui pointed out that in the process of growing up, she has been assisted by different people, which made her aspire to become a volunteer since she was a child. "I feel that volunteering is an angel, and it has also become a kind of energy for me. Whether studying, living, or spiritually, I have accepted it in the past. A lot of people’s help.”

With continuous efforts, Huang Minghui has become the first visually impaired psychotherapist and counseling psychologist in Hong Kong. He also volunteers to help different people solve emotional problems and share their own stories to encourage others.

Four years ago, he set up the "Medicine Walker" with like-minded volunteers and actively prepared for the "Medical Arts Walker", hoping to combine Chinese and Western medicine, psychotherapy and artistic elements to provide different services to help more people in need.

Huang Minghui believes that it is not difficult to be a volunteer. "Volunteering is not an activity, but an attitude towards life. For example, it is a spirit of volunteerism to care for people around you, to help others press Lift, and to open the door."

She said that everyone should not underestimate themselves, but start with their own abilities and transform them into a magic weapon to help others.

Another winner is Zheng Yuqin, a rehabilitated organ transplant and former chairman of the Hong Kong Transplantation Association.

She recalled that she had vomited repeatedly when she was young. After a blood test, she found that her kidney storage capacity was only 20% remaining, and she was also diagnosed with chronic nephritis.

The doctor told her that she could only rely on "washing her belly" to survive in this life, or waiting for a suitable organ transplant recipient to appear, which made her feel hesitated and helpless.

Fortunately, after 3 years, she was lucky enough to get the opportunity of organ donation and successfully performed the transplant operation.

She came across a poster in the hospital and learned that there was a World Transplant Games, so she signed up for it, "I went to Thailand in the new year and felt bad at the time. If I can't do exercises by myself, Mi Dang will go on a trip. In addition, a sports meeting. It is only with a specific identity (organ transplant recipient) to participate, so you can get to know more fellow travelers."

Rehabilitated organ transplants set up a sports association, hoping to help fellow travellers

After participating in the World Transplant Games, Zheng Yuqin and his colleagues opened their eyes and prompted them to establish the Hong Kong Transplantation Association in the following year (2008).

"At that time, the sports meeting was held for 9 consecutive days, and there were many different types of sports. It was very different from what everyone had previously known that it was not suitable for people who have undergone transplantation to walk around."

"In fact, I don’t want to do strenuous exercises, but I hope that they can make different levels of improvement, such as those who need to be in a wheelchair. I hope they can walk with assistance, make progress slowly, and even run. arrive".

Zheng Yuqin pointed out that the purpose of the association was to help other fellow travellers and to educate the citizens on the correct knowledge of organ donation. Help, feel safe and secure."

In addition, she believes that organ donation is not easy to come by. It is very important for the survivors of organ transplantation to understand how to maintain and take care of themselves. "After you have transplanted an organ, no matter how bad it is, I want to share it through the association so that my fellow travellers will realize it again. Correct knowledge".

She believes that everyone can contribute to the society. "Sungri has time to volunteer first, but in fact, as long as you can help in one activity, you can put in as much as you want, and as much as you want is enough."

Organ donation registration is also a way to help others. "Although registration does not mean that the donation will be successful, it is all a kind of heart and a support for patients who are waiting."
