While gas prices are blocked until June 30, 2022 for consumers, the government will compensate suppliers penalized by this measure.

The executive tabled an amendment to the finance bill this week.

"

It provides a financial guarantee to suppliers impacted by the freezing of regulated gas sales tariffs (TRVg) by compensation from the State budget, under public energy service charges, for losses they would suffer and that they would not have been able to recover at the end of the catch-up period of the tariff freeze

”, specifies the text.

For the smallest suppliers, supplying less than 300,000 sites, and being impacted by the freezing measure, a deposit will be paid to them before February 28, 2022 "in

order to support the cash flow of suppliers of modest size or those who find themselves in difficulty

" .

The supplier Hydroption, specializing in professional clients, has already been placed in receivership by the Toulon commercial court.

A loss of revenue estimated at 1.2 billion euros

As a reminder, the regulated tariff will be frozen until June 30, 2022 at the level of October 1.

This winter, around forty distributors will therefore have to sell gas to consumers at a lower price than the very high market prices.

Then from the spring, it will be up to consumers to pay a little more for gas than market prices, so that the sums paid in addition during the winter by the operators are recovered.

However, prices will not be able to exceed the current level before the end of 2022. Depending on market prices, it remains plausible that suppliers will therefore continue to lose money until the end of the year.

Bercy has estimated the cost of this loss of revenue at around 1.2 billion euros, but the amount will necessarily depend on world market prices.

"

In order to ensure transparency in the calculation of losses and compensation for suppliers, the Energy Regulatory Commission will continue to make public the TRVg as they should have evolved without the freezing system

", specifies the amendment. .

This month, gas prices should have risen by around 15% after climbing 12.6% in October.
