"Because of the Corona": Only Nine Books on the Long Sapphire Award nominee Israel today

2021-11-02T13:57:14.862Z

Each year the long list for the prestigious Literature Prize includes 12 books • According to the prize committee, this year there are only nine because fewer books have been submitted • From them the five books of the short list will be selected

The Sapphire Prize for Literature of the Lottery published yesterday the long list of nominees for this year's award.

Contrary to habit, the award committee headed by Giora Rom this year included only nine nominees, compared to 12 who are included in the long list each year.

Rom explained the devaluation in the number of nominees by saying that "the jury agreed on the nine most suitable books in its opinion to be included in the long list," adding that "this year, due to the Corona, fewer books were published and about 30 percent fewer nominees were submitted."

The books included in this year's long list are: "The Tongue Has Been Fallen" by Shimon Adaf, published by Pardes; "Nobody Leaves Palo Alto" by Yaniv Itzkovich, published by Keter; "How to love your daughter" by Hila Blum published by Kinneret ZBM; "Makom" by Nitzan Weissman published by Kinneret ZBM; "Stopovers" by Boris Seidman, published by Pardes; "Tomorrow I'll Get Out of It" by Matan Hermoni published by Keter; "Diana and David" by Shira Carmi, published by Ahuzat Beit; "Faith" by Dror Mishani, published by Ahuzat Beit; And "Baby Blues" by Miriam Kotz, published by Mishkel.

Each of the nine nominated writers will receive a grant of NIS 20,000, from which five writers will be selected for the shortlist for the prize (which includes those who will receive NIS 40,000 for each candidate).

The winner of the Sapir Prize will receive a grant of NIS 150,000, and his book will be translated into Arabic and another language of his choice.

In addition, Mifal Hapayis will purchase a 500-book edition of the books of the five authors selected from the "short list", and will donate them to public libraries throughout the country.
