The police arrested 5 men and women yesterday (1st) for using a fake "Travel with Peace" mobile app to try to enter the Wan Chai Immigration Building. The arrested persons included staff of the Immigration Department and the Audit Office. Wan Chai Police District Crime Squad

The police arrested 5 men and women yesterday (1st) for using a fake "Travel with Peace" mobile app to try to enter the Wan Chai Immigration Building. The arrested persons included staff of the Immigration Department and the Audit Office.

After investigation by the Wan Chai Police District Crime Squad, it was found that among the arrested, four of the arrested persons used a fake "Travel with peace of mind", commonly known as "Go home with peace of mind", while the other person used the mobile app that had visited the immigration building in the past. A screenshot of the mobile phone.

Five people were arrested on suspicion of "using false documents" and continue to be detained for investigation.

The police said that the Cyber Crime Division had taken action earlier and the "Go Home with Peace" mobile app had been removed.

The arrested person downloaded the program before it was removed.

The five arrested include four men and one woman (aged between 22 and 45), including a 34-year-old immigration officer, a 28-year-old immigration assistant, a 45-year-old audit officer of the Audit Office, and a man and a woman. 28-year-old and 22-year-old outsourced employees of the Immigration Department.

The police claimed that there was no evidence that everyone knew each other, and there was no evidence that one of them was a person responsible for checking "Travel with peace of mind."

Huang Changjun, the head of the first team of the Wan Chai Police District Crime Squad, described the case this (2nd) afternoon.

The incident occurred yesterday morning. The police received a call from the Immigration Department at 999 to report the case, stating that someone suspected of using a fake "Travel with Peace" mobile app on the ground floor of the Immigration Building on Gloucester Road, Wan Chai, with the intention of entering the building.

After the uniformed personnel of the Wan Chai Police District arrived at the scene, five people were arrested after preliminary investigations.

The case was later handed over to the first team of the Wan Chai Police District Crime Squad to take over the investigation.

Investigations revealed that among the five arrested, four suspected using the same fake "Travel with peace of mind" mobile app. The fake mobile app was called "Go home with peace of mind." The police believed that all four arrested were on a software development platform. On the web page, they can log in to the fake mobile app, and they can also install an icon of the mobile app on the homepage of the mobile phone through the web page, so as to completely imitate the installation of the real "Travel with peace of mind".

The police also discovered on the interface of the fake mobile app that users could enter address information on their own to forge records of visited premises.

Huang Changjun said that the police have reason to believe that the four arrested persons used this method to input different addresses into the fake mobile app, pretending to have used "Travel with peace of mind."

As for the other arrested man, he deliberately avoided inspection by immigration officers when he entered the immigration building, and he was eventually intercepted for investigation.

According to the investigation, the arrested person was involved in using screenshots of the "Travel with Peace" mobile phone used to visit the immigration building in the past, imitating the QR code that had been scanned before entering the building.

At the time of the incident, the five arrested persons were requested by the Immigration Department of the building to show their visit records, but they were found to be different from the visit records of true "Travel with peace of mind" in terms of font, color and design.

The officers further inspected the mobile phones of the four arrested persons who used fake mobile apps and found that they could enter the address after returning to the previous page, revealing that they were not really "traveling with peace of mind."

The arrested person involved in the use of screenshots, apart from the screenshots found after inspection, also did not contain "Travel with peace of mind" on their mobile phones.

The police strongly condemns the advocacy of downloading counterfeiting and does not rule out criminal investigations

Huang Changjun continued that the counterfeit mobile phone application has been removed due to the earlier actions taken by the Police Cyber Security and Technology Crime Investigation Division. Therefore, the login URL of the "Go Home with Peace" at the time of yesterday's case was invalid, and the incident was involved. The fake mobile app cannot be downloaded from the website. It is believed that the four arrested persons in the case downloaded the mobile app before the mobile app was removed, so the fake mobile app can still be used.

As for whether software developers have criminal liability, the police will investigate further and seek advice from the Department of Justice.

Huang emphasized that the police noticed that some discussion forums on the Internet were full of remarks advocating downloading fake "Travel with peace of mind" mobile apps and provided a series of teachings.

The police once again severely condemned this and do not rule out a criminal investigation in the future.

In the future, if a citizen’s mobile phone is installed with a "home with peace of mind" program, whether it is illegal or not, the police said it depends on the user's intention to use the program.
