For years, the Paul Heyse underpass at the main train station was considered a Munich eyesore.
She is currently being spruced up, but since the weekend there has been new trouble.

Since the Halloween weekend, two large black lettering has adorned the brightly painted metal panels.
They don't make sense at first glance.
“ZSC * FLW!” And “STOR” are written there.
When Benoît Blaser, district committee chairman (Ludwigsvorstadt * -Isarvorstadt *), sees the graffiti near the southern entrance for the first time, he shakes his head.
“It's unfortunate,” he says.
If it were at least nice ... But Blaser can't do anything with these black letters.
There is another way of doing this.
This is shown by several examples - even in the same district - around the cattle farm and slaughterhouse.
The BA chairman could also imagine such creative, colorful solutions for the Paul Heyse underpass.
But the wall shouldn't get too dark again.

Because at the moment you can already guess what the 210-meter-long tube will look like soon.
Bright, illuminated walls create a feeling of security.
Pedestrians and cyclists have their own illuminated area.
The contrast between the past and the future couldn't be more visible right now.
The west side is almost finished, while the east side still shows the old, terrible grimace of the Paul Heyse underpass.
Dark, cold, filthy and smeared.

The construction measures, which cost 6.3 million euros, are to be completed by April 2022.
Then one of the Munich eyesores that the underpass was considered to be for decades will be erased.
However, Blaser and his colleagues at the BA are not entirely satisfied with the redesign.
"We wanted a wider lane for cyclists, maybe even with a demarcation from the car lane," explains the chairman.
But it should definitely be better than before.
