The Oberland is lagging behind in terms of the energy transition.

The Bürgerstiftung Energiewende Oberland (EWO) would like to start with the consumption of heat in order to achieve this goal.

District

- In order to achieve the ambitious goal of being exclusively supplied with renewable energies by 2035, eight to nine wind turbines would have to be built and every second roof equipped with solar cells. Stefan Drexlmeier, branch manager of the Bürgerstiftung Energiewende Oberland (EWO), was nevertheless optimistic at the meeting of the district council and used an example from football: "We can turn the deficit into a victory in the second half."

The numbers currently speak against winning the game.

In mobility, the share of renewable energies in the energy mix in the Oberland is three percent, in heating eleven percent and in electricity 41 percent.

If the energy transition project started in 2005 continues to develop at this speed, the goal of making the four Oberland districts of Miesbach, Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen, Weilheim-Schongau and Garmisch-Partenkirchen independent of fossil fuels by 2035 (we reported) will not be achieved .

Starting points especially when it comes to heating

Drexlmeier and the EWO do not want to be defeated yet. Drexlmeier, who is also Chairman of the EWO Energy Competence Center, sees starting points in particular when it comes to heating. “We always talk about electricity, but the heat is a really big lever for us,” he said. The aim is to get away from the high heat demand in the region. For this purpose, among other things, the renovation rate in the existing building must be increased. In other words: If there are too many buildings, heat is lost. At the same time, too few self-sufficient power and heat generation systems are in operation. Drexlmeier: "Only six percent of all usable roofs are covered with solar systems."

In the coming years, the EWO would therefore like to continue to support municipalities in their energy management and with concepts, on the one hand, and on the other hand, the focus is on advising private individuals, for example with specific recommendations for action. The district office's climate protection managers are also working on this, giving the district councilors an insight into their work and current projects.

Josef Lechner (CSU) emphasized the benefits of the foundation at the meeting.

The four districts have invested 995,000 euros since it was founded.

With the help of funding, services and memberships, the EWO generated around 11 million euros.

Nevertheless: "The EWO does not manage to take the citizens with it," said the former mayor of Fischbachau.

He therefore called on the municipalities to get involved better and more visibly.

Lechner: "The communities in the other three districts are way ahead of us."

Staff expansion is urgently required

There is also some catching up to do in terms of personnel.

The EWO office with its six full-time positions currently looks after a region with 440,000 inhabitants, said Drexlmeier.

Too little to be able to advise comprehensively.

“We urgently need an expansion.” The two district climate protection managers Veronika Halmbacher and Antonia Rüede-Passul had a similar opinion: The two are currently sharing a full-time position.
