Several countries have pledged to significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions and have promised to reach zero carbon emissions in the coming years.

With the climate summit taking place in the Scottish city of Glasgow, US President Joe Biden pledged to work with the European Union and other countries to cut methane emissions worldwide by 30 percent by 2030.

The Biden administration has launched an extensive plan to reduce methane emissions that aims to eliminate the greenhouse gases that contribute significantly to global warming.

In turn, Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida pledged today that his country will strive to reduce global warming emissions, and said in an interview with reporters, "Japan is determined to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050 and achieve net zero emissions throughout Asia."

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi also pledged that his country will reach a degree (zero carbon emissions) by 2070, explaining that this goal "gives the country 10 years more than China and 20 years more than the United States and the European Union."

New Zealand has also pledged to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 50 percent by 2030.

"The climate pollution for which New Zealand is responsible in 2030 will be half of what it is today," New Zealand Climate Change Minister James Shaw said.

New Zealand's pledge was preceded by Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison's announcement that his country is targeting net-zero emissions for 2050, saying: "The plan provides for the equivalent of 13 billion euros of investment ... but it depends largely on the purchase of pollution prevention rights and technologies that reduce it."

Yesterday, the 26th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change kicked off in Glasgow, and this summit comes amid unprecedented challenges to climate change that emerged in the natural disasters that afflicted several regions around the world earlier this year.
