Rebels in the northern Ethiopian province of Tigray have in recent days approached the capital, Addis Ababa, and city officials today (Tuesday) called on residents to arm themselves with weapons and prepare to defend them. The Addis Ababa administration added that "those trying to create chaos" are being arrested by authorities, amid reports of a wave of arrests among tyrannical residents in the city.
Vigilance in the Ethiopian capital is growing after the Popular Front for the Liberation of Tigray announced that it had conquered two cities - Desi and Kombulcha - in the neighboring Amhara district of Tigray, and was about 380 km north of Addis Ababa. He is in the federal government of Abbey Ahmed, and said they are considering moving towards the capital.
The war between the Ethiopian government and the tyrannical forces began a year ago, and has since expanded to other areas of the country.
The Tigray Front has dominated Ethiopian politics for nearly 30 years, before Abbey was appointed prime minister in 2018.
Thousands of civilians were killed in the conflict, and hundreds of thousands are starving.
More than two and a half million residents have fled their homes in northern Ethiopia.
