In a letter to the prime minister, the minister requested that an emergency discussion be convened with the intention of raising thousands who are in danger of death following the battles between the army and the rebels from Tigray.
According to her, there is a fear of further escalation that could also affect Jews living in the capital and the disputed region.

Immigration and Absorption Minister Pnina Temano-Shte today (Wednesday) sent a letter to Prime Minister Naftali Bennett requesting an emergency discussion on the escalation of the Ethiopian civil war to consider rescuing thousands of people waiting in Addis Ababa and Gondar for aliyah to Israel and who are allegedly in real danger.
In recent days there has been a further deterioration in the fighting in Ethiopia.
The rebels from Tigray managed to win several battles with Ethiopian army forces and even declared that they were preparing for an assault on the capital Addis Ababa.
The security situation in the country is extremely shaky and the US and other countries in the West have begun to evacuate their citizens from Ethiopia.

Most of those waiting to immigrate to Israel are members of the Falashmura, whose families are in Israel. Some of those waiting for aliyah are Jews, and Jews also live in the Tigray region itself. "The precarious security situation is directly affecting members of communities waiting in Ethiopia, endangering their lives and requiring immediate government intervention for the expedited raising of those waiting," Tamano-Sheta wrote to Bennett.
She added that the rest of the Tigray Jew suffers from harassment and sanctions on the basis of ethnic origin. According to her, there may be another escalation that will endanger the lives of the Jews of Tigray and those waiting in Addis Ababa. "Their families in Israel are finding it difficult to contact them and help them financially during this difficult crisis. Every additional day of waiting could come at a cost of human life among the Jewish community in Ethiopia," Temano-Shta wrote.
A senior Israeli source noted that in recent days there have been consultations between the headquarters and national security in the Prime Minister's Office, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Absorption, the Ministry of Defense and other government officials regarding the situation in Ethiopia.
However, the discussions have so far taken place at the working levels and not at the level of the prime minister and ministers.
