It is circulated online that a male student of Hong Kong International School was suspected of raping a female student on campus, and was brought to court by the parent of the female student.
The Education Bureau replied today (3rd) that it had learned about the incident from the school and would provide appropriate opinions as needed. However, since the case has entered judicial proceedings, the Education Bureau should not comment on the case.

The Education Bureau reiterated that if a school suspects that a student has been sexually assaulted, it must immediately handle the incident in accordance with the Education Bureau’s guidelines and provide appropriate assistance to the students involved.
In the procedure, the school should activate the school-based emergency mechanism or crisis management team, and at the same time appoint school social workers or dedicated personnel to get a preliminary understanding of the student's situation.
During the evaluation process, schools should consult and report to the Family and Child Protection Services Section of the Social Welfare Department to seek professional advice.
If the case may involve a criminal offence or the case is serious, the school must notify the police as soon as possible.
If a case is suspected to involve teaching staff, the school must report to the Education Bureau and submit relevant case information to protect the safety of other students in the school.
