Leonhardi cancellations in the Miesbacher district: In Kreuth no church service either

Despite various corona loosening and vaccination successes, a return to normality on St. Leonhard's Day is unthinkable this year as well.

Despite various corona loosening and vaccination successes, a return to normality on St. Leonhard's Day is unthinkable this year as well.

Update from Wednesday, November 3rd: No church service in Kreuth

The Leonhardiffahrt on Saturday, November 6th, in Kreuth has been canceled for a long time.

"Due to the rapidly increasing incidence and the worrying occupancy of our hospital", as it is said in a press release, the political community and parish decided on Wednesday to cancel the Leonhardi service planned for 9:30 am outdoors.

Mayor Josef Bierschneider announced this in the evening.

Original report dated October 20th

District

- For the second year in a row, the Leonhardi drives in the district fell victim to the corona pandemic.

The extent of the gathering on traditional horse pilgrimages is difficult if not impossible to handle for most of the people.

Leonhard Markhauser, organizer of the Leonhardifahrt in Fischhausen am Schliersee, says: “In case of doubt, we cannot guarantee that everything is corona-compliant.” Markhauser and his colleagues from the Leonhardi Committee also couldn't imagine how the legally required 3G- Regulation should have been implemented in practice.

Therefore, it was decided to suspend again in 2021.

"As organizers, we cannot bear this responsibility, nor can we guarantee that all visitors feel safe."

Cancellations also for Hundham and Schliersee

Usually he was always happy that Lehards am Schliersee is very popular, says Markhauser. After all, in the years before Corona, between 4,000 and 5,000 visitors came in good weather. “When it rained, it was always significantly less, around 1000.” But this year - one way or another - the risk of a “too big rush” is too high. Markhauser is now concentrating “fully on the organization for Leonhardi 2022”. He hopes that the pilgrimage can take place again in the old manner. “But unfortunately you can't be sure about that either. Last year I thought that everything would go back to normal this year. "

Kreuth's mayor Josef Bierschneider also reacts very cautiously to the question about Leonhardi 2021. "We are celebrating Leonhardi this year to a very limited extent," he reports. In Kreuth, too, people want to "absolutely prevent" large crowds because of the pandemic situation, emphasizes Bierschneider. In order to devote some attention to the pilgrimage day, there will be a service in the fresh air. "But without the church move in advance and only on a very small scale," said the mayor. Therefore, the traditional bypass on Leonhardi Day in Kreuth will also fall through this year. “We simply cannot allow Leonhardi to take place as it was before,” says Bierschneider and points out: “But it is still a day of pilgrimage, and it takes place in the original sense through the service.“If riders appear at the open-air service, they will receive a blessing afterwards, according to the town hall chief.

Leonhardi in Warngau and Reichersdorf has been canceled for a long time

The Leonhardiffahrt in Hundham is also officially canceled.

Fischbachau's mayor Johannes Lohwasser explains: “Ultimately, we do not see ourselves in a position to implement a safe hygiene concept.” The flow of visitors cannot be controlled and channeled to the required extent.

“We are simply reaching our logistical limits,” says Lohwasser.

The Leonhardi trips in Warngau and Reichersdorf were canceled some time ago.

The latter would have taken place at the beginning of October.
