For the fourth time, the Free State Theater of Bavaria takes a run on the stage in Waitzinger Keller with the musical “Anatevka”.

The pandemic has left its mark.

Miesbach

- The already scheduled premiere had to be postponed three times - now the performance should finally work in the fourth attempt: On Thursday, November 4, 2021, the Free State Theater of Bavaria (FLTB) finally wants the musical in its headquarters, the Waitzinger Keller in Miesbach Present “Anatevka”. No longer as a world premiere, which has already taken place on October 15th in Karlsfeld due to scheduling reasons. But as a long-awaited home game.

For the ensemble with around 70 participants - some professionals, some laypeople - the cancellations were a bitter blow. Months of work: in vain. This has not left the staging without a trace, as Rudolf Maier-Kleeblatt explains at our newspaper's request. “We had to move a lot,” reports the director. On the stage, but also behind it. “Helpers and makeup artists are in short supply,” says Maier-Kleeblatt. Why? “Sometimes there are huge fears of being infected. But most of them have looked for something else professionally, including among the musicians. ”He can understand that. Those who were dependent on the cultural scene had to keep themselves and their families afloat with alternatives during the long lockdowns. Quite a few stuck to new activities, at least for the time being - or barely find the timein addition, to continue practicing their skills daily as intensively as necessary. "It was difficult even before Corona," says Maier-Kleeblatt. But the pandemic has made the situation worse.

"Otherwise it would mean the end"

After all, the FLTB has no existential worries because of the pandemic, the director appreciates that very much.

"Our donors, the district, the district, the city of Miesbach and the market town of Holzkirchen continue to support us, that was not a discussion either," says Maier-Kleeblatt.

"We are very grateful for that, otherwise that would mean the end."

Nevertheless, the losses due to the failure of around one and a half years are harsh for the FLTB.

“We have to generate two thirds of our budget through ticket sales and guest performances.” Unlike large institutions such as the Munich State Opera, which are publicly financed to a much greater extent.

In this respect, Maier-Kleeblatt and his team are happy that they can now perform again - and can only hope that it stays that way.

After the second Anatevka rejection: "The frustration is now even greater"

The next production is already in progress: “The Land of Smiles” is to celebrate its premiere on March 12, 2022 in Miesbach.

Now the ensemble around Maier-Kleeblatt, who is also musical director, is looking forward to their home game with “Anatevka”.

Intensive rehearsals have been taking place for weeks to ensure that everything is in place again.

Tickets for the performance of “Anatevka” on Thursday, November 4, 2021 at 7 p.m. in the Waitzinger Keller are still available at 0 80 25/7 00 00.
