Another bank and post office in Munich is closing again: Postbank has announced that it will be giving up its branch on Fraunhoferstrasse in November. That causes displeasure.

Another bank and post office in Munich is closing again: Postbank has announced that it will be giving up its branch on Fraunhoferstrasse in November.

That causes displeasure.

Munich - It's over on November 24th: Then it will be the last day on which the Postbank branch with integrated post office is open on Fraunhoferstraße.

Postbank announced the closure on Wednesday.

"We are giving up the location completely," says spokesman Oliver Rittmaier.

There will also no longer be an ATM.

“A branch needs a certain customer potential so that it can be operated economically,” he explains.

The postal business is a service that is offered as a cooperation partner.

The core business lies in banking products.

And that is where the demand has decreased lately.

Instead of doing their banking business in the branch, more and more people are using the internet.

"The development already existed and Corona made it even stronger," says Oliver Rittmaier.

"Online banking has increased among customers in all age groups."

Munich: Customers regret From the post office

Many citizens are nevertheless disappointed by the news - after all, a network of post offices and bank branches is important, especially for senior citizens who are no longer so good on foot. "Many elderly people live here who are dependent on it," says Christian Dumont (60). "That is not customer-friendly." The employees are always competent and fast. “I was always very satisfied, but now I have to look for a new post,” he complains. Gerhard Acktun, who lives just around the corner and has been visiting the branch on Fraunhoferstraße for 20 years, has a similar experience. "I think it's a shame that the branch is closed," he says. "It is only saved - at our expense."

Overall, the Postbank branches are to be reduced from around 750 to around 550 across Germany by the end of 2023.

“Of course, a city like Munich is also taken into account,” says Oliver Rittmaier.

However, he cannot yet say whether there will be further closings there.

Postbank in Munich: The branch on Romanplatz is also closing

It is already known that the Postbank branch on Romanplatz will close next year. There is also a post office there. Now the city council groups SPD / Volt and The Greens - Pink List have applied for Lord Mayor Dieter Reiter to work at the federal level to maintain the post office. In addition, the city councils demand that a stationary post office should be reachable within a maximum of 1000 meters. The acceptance and storage of packages of all sizes must be guaranteed. “Swiss Post can and must operate its own branches,” demand the applicants. Because the basic supply with the Post is part of the general interest and contributes to the quality of life.

Postbank advises customers from Fraunhoferstraße who would like to continue doing their banking business on site to the branches in Sonnenstraße 24-26 or at Goetheplatz 1.

Postal services are also offered there.

These are also available, for example, from the Deutsche Post at Müllerstrasse 47. In addition, Postbank points out that many supermarkets have cashback procedures where you can withdraw money free of charge when making cashless payments.

There is a cash finder at www.postbank.de/geldautomaten and a branch finder at www.postbank.de/filialen.
