(ANSA) - ROME, NOVEMBER 03 - Divided in life, but united in the prevention of diseases and in the search for their own psychophysical well-being. The memorandum of understanding between Athena Donna and the Department of Penitentiary Administration, signed by the President of the non-profit organization, Carla Vittoria Maira, and by the regional superintendent of Lazio, Abruzzo, Molise and Campania, Carmelo Cantone.

The #Liberalamente project provides for the organization of a series of voluntary health care meetings to be held monthly within the institutes and women's sections of the suburban and prison houses and intended, in fact, for all the women present in the structures of the four regions.

Doctors and specialists will discuss with them, from time to time, issues concerning the prevention and treatment of various female pathologies and, in general, attention paths to promote personal well-being and health. It will start from the institutes of Lazio where, from mid-November, the monthly meetings with the psychotherapist Salvo Noè will start.

"A project designed exclusively for women is starting - underlines Bernardo Petralia, Head of the Department of the Penitentiary Administration - and which within the penitentiary institutes will address a total of about 6,500 women, corresponding to 4% of the prison population and 12% of the police staff Penitentiary. It is a path strongly supported by Minister Marta Cartabia and which places at the center, without barriers, the search for the well-being of all women, who every day find themselves living together in our prisons ".

"During the complex period we lived with the lockdown, losing our everyday life - says Carla VittoriaMaira, president of the non-profit organization Atena Donna - we perceived the limitation of space and freedom and this made us reflect on how much these sensations can be exasperated for the women who live this condition every day.

So we decided to support them with this project created in collaboration with the DAP. Also inspired by the words of Pope Francis, when he argues that it is necessary to ensure that punishment does not compromise the right to hope, and that while the mistakes of the past are remedied, hope for the future cannot be erased ".
