In order to be able to decide on the referendum, the municipality re-measured the old Wiedemann area - with an astonishing result.

Münsing

- The first referendum in the history of the municipality has had a surprising outcome: the municipal council joined the initiators' demands in the special session on Tuesday.

The decision was unanimously passed that the planned Ambach senior citizens' home should not take up more space than the old Wiedemann Clinic.

That was relatively easy for the local council. Because: A new survey has shown that the former sanatorium, in which the rich and beautiful went in and out in the 1960s, was clearly larger than claimed in the referendum, namely 5060 and not 3918 square meters. The upper limit for the new sanatorium is 4785 square meters. “We have common goals,” explained Michael Grasl. "We always wanted the new building to fit into the footprint of the former clinic."

Planner Christian Weigl, who accompanies the senior citizens' residential building, explained how the community proceeded.

“It was the most honest thing to measure the existing stock again.” The effort over the past few weeks was immense, and the now overgrown area had to be partially exposed.

The calculation of the areas was also complex because of the hillside location.

“We worked to the best of our knowledge and belief,” he assured the councilors and the 30 or so listeners.

The result: The built-up area of the former Wiedemann Clinic is 5060 square meters - significantly more than what the new owner, “Kuratorium Wohnen im Alter” (Kuratorium Wohnen im Alter), is allowed to do.

What conclusions could be drawn from this surprising finding?

The community's lawyer, Gerhard Spieß, brought two alternatives into play: Either reject the petition as inadmissible because it is based on false prerequisites.

Or submit it to the local council for resolution.

Town hall chief Grasl strongly advised this.

"A rejection would not be our understanding of citizen participation."

Opposition came only from Prof. Matthias Richter Turtur (Greens).

He spoke of "amazing arithmetic" and questioned the first interpretation.

"It is wasted." Weigl said no: "The numbers in the interpretation were correct." Spieß added: "The only correct number in the referendum comes from the interpretation."

Two other councilors simply expressed relief.

Thomas Schurz (CSU) declared: “It is finally set in stone that we have not made a wrong decision in principle.” And Stefan Holzheu (Holzhausen voter group) added: “As an Ambacher, I am happy to see that the new is not bigger than that Old woman. “Otherwise there were no requests to speak.

The result was clear: 14: 0 votes, three municipal councilors - Josef Strobl, Helge Strauss and Bernhard Ruhdorfer - were excused.

Initiator Anatol Regnier was amazed at how the evening went.

“The number that we named in citizens' petitions has always been given by the community itself.” At the moment he is at a loss as to whether and how it will continue.

The only thing that is certain is: "I will certainly not go out with the folding rule and measure."

Mayor Michael Grasl rejects the claim to have communicated the figure of 3918 square meters.

“I know that.

No employee was able to verify it either.

The second interpretation is currently in progress, and the objections are planned to be dealt with in early 2023.

When will it be built?

Most uncertain.
