Thirteen people in Israel have already been identified as verified in the new subspecies of the Delta variant (AY4.2), which was first discovered about two weeks ago in Israel - Walla learned!

Three more isolates are waiting for genetic sequencing tests to verify which variant they are infected with.

The results of the epidemiological investigations found that out of 30 contacts with patients in the variant, 10% are verified, and that seven patients, who constitute 54% of the verified, are vaccinated.

These data indicate the strong infectivity of the new variant, which worries the Ministry of Health - which is trying to curb its spread in the country, so as not to challenge the effectiveness of the third vaccine.

Of the 13 verified, one infected person did not return from abroad, and is vaccinated in three doses. The rest returned from different countries, mainly Eastern Europe - four from Moldova, three from the Czech Republic, two from the UK and Ukraine and one from Romania.

The AY4.2 variant has so far been classified worldwide as the Delta variant, and has only recently been classified as a separate sub-strain.

The variant was discovered in Israel about two weeks ago, among an 11-year-old boy who returned from Moldova.

The Ministry of Health has examined all the flooring classified so far as the Delta strain in recent months, and has identified five more "veteran" cases of the new sub-strain.

The world is also worried about the new breed.

In the UK it currently accounts for six per cent of all corona cases, according to a public health report released on 1 October.

In the United States, not many cases of variants were found.

At the same time, the Ministry of Health fears a decline in response to the third and first vaccines, when in the last week only 7,000 people were vaccinated at all.

There are currently one and a half million vaccinated with two vaccines, who are eligible for a third vaccine since half a year has passed since their second vaccine, but at the moment they are not getting vaccinated.

At a meeting earlier this week chaired by Prime Minister Bennett, senior officials from the Ministry of Health, the National Security Council and the Home Front Command, they expressed concern about the decline in response and claimed they were helpless as they had no more answers to encourage immunization.

Meanwhile, tomorrow members of the Committee for the Treatment of Epidemics are expected to convene and discuss the vaccination of children aged 11-5, for the first time live with questions in advance to members. The person who will lead the discussion is the Director General of the Ministry of Welfare, Mr. Nir Keidar.
