Trouble with Waakirchner sports field turf: Schoolchildren are not allowed on it when it is wet

Waakirchen - The lawn on the sports field at the Waakirchen elementary school is closed to children during the breaks.

This now caused a heated discussion in the local council.

Is the football pitch on the sports field at the Waakirchen elementary school a sacred cow?

Evi Obermüller (Greens) recently brought the topic onto the table in the local council.

At the moment, the lawn may only be stepped on when the space is dry, including during breaks.

However, the teachers urge that this rule be changed.

Because for three quarters of the year the lawn is damp and unusable for the break.

A wish that was discussed emotionally.

Mayor Norbert Kerkel said he knew the problem and explained that the lawn was of a very high quality and therefore not suitable for playing.

Its maintenance is extremely time-consuming.

The community also invested a lot of money in a decent football field a few years ago.

Use the gym as a break area

Manager Markus Liebl joined Kerkel and reported that the soccer field used to be one of the worst in the Miesbach district.

Today it is considered one of the best.

The groundskeeper tries very hard and is consistent.

Evi Obermüller thought it was strange to choose such a sensitive lawn for a school sports facility.

It is a pity that the children have to stay away from it.

"We will not be able to change the physics," said Kerkel and promised to talk to school principal Holger Kraus.

The gym could possibly be used as a break area.

As before, however, the state of affairs is that the soccer field may be used for school sports and only for breaks when it is dry.

Michael Mohrenweiser (ABV), also the second chairman of SV Waakirchen-Marienstein, which plays its home football matches there, warned a classic football pit if a damp lawn should not be spared.

Among other things, the hard court and other play equipment are available for the break, emphasized his parliamentary colleague Rudi Reber.

Lawn more important than the children

Finally, Cornelia Riepe (Greens) burst out: The football turf is apparently a sacred cow that is cared for like a classic car.

Its integrity outweighs the children's urge to move.

Kerkel's advice that the soccer field is also closed to soccer players when it is wet was only able to calm the minds of Riepe and Obermüller to a moderate extent.

When asked by Mayor Kerkel, the conversation between him and the headmaster Kraus has meanwhile taken place.

Ultimately, the existing rules and the existing break areas remain.
