Former Deputy Foreign Minister Yossi Beilin said this morning (Wednesday) in the program of Golan Yokfaz and Anat Davidov about the allegations that Shimon Peres sexually harassed Colette Avital: "I do not know Colette Avital as a liar or Peres as someone who forces himself on someone. I have no reason to think "She's lying but I can not confirm such a thing. I hope it does not hurt him, he is a man who did great things. He had advantages and disadvantages."
Beilin recounted the release of his new book, and a surprising conversation he had with Pope John Paul II: "He invited me because he wanted to thank me for leading the negotiations for the establishment of historic diplomatic relations with Israel and the Vatican.
He was old, looked very weak, asked me some questions and gathered into himself.
Those 20 minutes seemed awfully long to me.
I talked and told about the impressions from his visit and his speeches, etc.
He suddenly looks straight ahead and says to me, 'Tell me, what's going on in your country?
How could you choose Katsav for president?
When there is someone like Shimon Peres who faces Katsav, do you choose Katsav? "
According to him, the pope" did not understand the system, he asked:
After that Barak really resigned but I explained that he did not.
So I realized that all those minutes I was talking he was not sleeping. "

He also spoke about the special relationship with Palestinian politician Saeb Erekat, who led the Israeli-Palestinian peace process on the Palestinian side: "He was a negotiator, not a simple man but a decent man, and a decent man. For talks with us, Arafat asked that an agreement between us stipulate that the Palestinian president be elected by the Palestinian people, not by the Palestinian parliament. Rabin asked for a break, we went downstairs, and someone knocked on the door. I agree with that. "I was amazed, you do not expect to speak of this kind in political talks, not even in informal talks."
