The Archdiocese of Bamberg thought about the Corona crisis and came up with a contactless holy water dispenser.

Will that prevail?

Bamberg - For the believers, visiting the church over the past two years has been almost like running the gauntlet.

The corona pandemic * made it difficult to pray together.

Initially, services were forbidden, then they were only allowed to take place outdoors.

At the same time, singing together was prevented for a long time.

And to this day the holy water fonts in the churches are empty.

That should now be over in Bamberg *.

Archdiocese of Bamberg: “Holy Drop” contactless holy water dispenser is tested

It almost sounds like a product from the lion's den.

But behind the name “Holy Drop” there is something completely different.

Germany's first non-contact holy water dispenser is located in Bamberg Cathedral.

In the west wing of the church, a gold-plated, head-high faucet has recently been sticking out of the floor.

Below is the empty holy water font.

If you hold your hands underneath, a drop of holy water creeps out of the tap, with which the churchgoer can then cross himself.

The whole structure also stands out clearly from the disinfectant dispenser set up right next to it.

"The free-standing faucet is set up directly at the holy water font and is clearly different from the disinfectant dispensers due to its high-quality design, so that there is no risk of confusion," explained Birgit Kastner, head of the department for art and culture in the professorship.

This distinction seems important.

A man gives the reason for this in his Facebook comment: “Cool!

Our son had crossed himself on the Kreuzberg with the supposed holy water dispenser and sprayed disinfectant in the eye - the 'St.

Spirit 'with 92% went straight into his limbs! "

Archdiocese of Bamberg: Holy water dispenser could serve as a model for other churches

Most of Bamberg's faithful seem to like the idea of the archdiocese. It also says under the Facebook post, “Holy Drop ingenious naming” and, somewhat ironically, “God's car wash”. Another wanted to know if there was enough holy water coming out of the tap that the rest would collect in the basin underneath. This would reduce the point of the contactless holy water dispenser to absurdity. The archbishopric was able to reassure him. "The contactless sensor only releases one drop of holy water at a time, so that no larger amount collects in the basin."

If the concept prevails, such holy water dispensers will also be set up at the other entrances.

Perhaps the Bamberg invention will even gain acceptance across Germany.

There already seem to be imitators.

A Facebook follower writes: “I've seen and used it in Hilpoltstein.

But with a different look. ”
