Pfaffenhausen - The corona numbers have also been rising in the Unterallgäu district for weeks (today the incidence is 291.5 according to the RKI). The St. Anna senior citizen center in Pfaffenhausen has currently been hit particularly hard. There are numerous infections among residents and employees - even though most of them are vaccinated. The dynamics in the fourth corona wave bring people in care to their limits, writes the Dominikus -ringenisen-Werk (sponsor of the home in Pfaffenhausen) in a press release.

State of

emergency in the St. Anna senior citizen center: Despite an almost

100 percent vaccination rate

among the

33 residents between the ages of 69 and 100

,

21 people were demonstrably

infected

with Covid-19

at the beginning of November

. Nine were hospitalized because of symptoms. A woman has died.

Eight of the 26 employees were also infected

and remained in quarantine at home with mild to moderate symptoms. A further three employees with a positive rapid test were still waiting for the results of the PCR test at the end of last week. A so-called work quarantine has been approved by the Unterallgäu health department for a specialist who has tested positive but is symptom-free: She is only allowed to leave the house for the way to work with corona patients.

As reported by the Dominikus -ringenisen-Werk, the infections were

noticed

as part of the

routine rapid

tests and were confirmed in a series of tests by the health department using PCR tests. Before the outbreak, the 3-G rule was consistently implemented for visitors and employees, emphasizes the DRW. Unvaccinated employees were tested twice a week. Nevertheless, the infections did occur.

"The situation is incredibly stressful for everyone,"

says Ulrike Höchstötter, director of the St. Anna nursing home. “The remaining employees have to take over the tasks of the quarantined colleagues. They work to the absolute limit of their abilities, perform tremendously and are ready to adapt flexibly to the new situation on a daily basis, ”says Elmar Müller, general manager of the Dominikus ring iron factory in the Unterallgäu region, describing the tense situation. After coping well with the first three corona waves without an infection, you are now facing the biggest challenge since the beginning of the pandemic.

But the home in Pfaffenhausen is

not on its own

in its predicament

: An internal call in the DRW for nursing staff for Pfaffenhausen was ten people straight away, explains company spokesman Manuel Liesenfeld. In addition, individual groups of the funding site were closed in order to redistribute employees. The situation is fragile, but currently under control, said Müller.

Worrying, says DRW board member Wolfgang Tyrychter, is the

high number of so-called vaccination breakthroughs

in completely vaccinated people.

This is also shown by the situation in St. Anna: Of the 33 residents, 31 were double vaccinated at the time of the Corona outbreak.

Some even had the third vaccination, the so-called booster.

Only one resident was vaccinated once.

According to the DRW, the vaccination rate among employees is around 86 percent.

"Also, significantly more people are now symptomatic and require hospital treatment than was the case last autumn," adds Tyrychter.
