A symbolic declaration, like this first official visit by the European Parliament to the island.
It highlights a change in attitude of the European Union, in favor of a rapprochement with Taipei, to Beijing's great displeasure.
The visit follows a resolution adopted by the European Parliament on October 21, calling for closer ties.
