The photo and video portraits celebrated “
freedom in the hijab
” and featured slogans such as “
my veil, my choice
” or “
wearing the Islamic veil is a human right
”.
Published since October 28 on the Council of Europe website (an organization outside the EU) and on its Twitter account, some posters also showed smiling children, including a veiled little girl, holding hands.

Reactions erupted during the day of Tuesday, November 2 from the entire political class against this campaign on the Council of Europe's hijab, from the National Rally to Socialist Senator Laurence Rossignol via the government.
The Secretary of State for Youth, Sarah El Haïry, also indicated on LCI that she "
expressed her extremely strong disapproval
" to the Council.
The posts were pulled from Twitter on Tuesday afternoon before being taken off its site the next day.
