Members of the Ethiopian community are celebrating the Sigd holiday today (Thursday), centered on the ceremony of renewing the covenant between the people and God.
On this holiday, which began hundreds of years ago in Ethiopia, and which begins fifty days after Yom Kippur, members of the Beta Israel community read excerpts from the "Holy Taste", the scriptures of the community, and also pray for redemption.
According to tradition, the ceremony was held at the top of a high mountain, as a symbol of Mount Sinai status.
In Israel, the custom is to hold the main ceremony on the Commissioner's Palace promenade, which overlooks the Temple Mount.
The state blessing ceremony will begin at 12:30 on the Armon Hanatziv promenade with the participation of President Yitzhak Herzog, Minister of Immigration and Absorption Pnina Tamano Sheta, Chairman of the State Corporation - Ethiopian Jewish Heritage Center Dr. Simcha Gathon and other senior officials.
Alongside them, video greetings from Prime Minister MK Naftali Bennett and Minister of Culture and Sports Hili Trooper will be broadcast.
