Miesbach - The plans for the new Riviera in Miesbach are becoming more and more concrete.

But there is criticism from free voters of the high costs.

The coffers in the district town of Miesbach are empty - and there are a lot of investments to be made.

The conversion of the former monastery into a children's home is in the budget for 3.3 million euros.

Around 2.2 million euros are budgeted for the renovation of the Benefiziatenhaus for the coming years.

According to the current budget, Miesbach's debts will rise to a good 28 million euros this year.

Given this financial situation, is it justified to spend a good 600,000 on the beautification of the Riviera?

For Mayor Gerhard Braunmiller and the large majority in the city council, yes.

The faction of the Free Voting Community sees it differently.

She pleaded - unsuccessfully - in the latest meeting of the city council for more moderate planning.

Felling trees because of ALB

"The way was right", Braunmiller defended the approach.

He wanted public participation.

"A special place needs special facilities", emphasized CSU spokesman Erhard Pohl.

Approval also came from the Greens.

Astrid Güldner spoke of coherent design ideas.

She is convinced: "What we have worked out is impressive."

Since the green area was cut down because of the Asian longhorn beetle (ALB) and is now quite bare, the process of developing a new face has been going on.

Citizens could contribute their ideas.

A working group with representatives of the city council groups met several times.

Drinking fountain is installed

The current status of the planning, which Elisabeth Niggl from the planning office Frei Raum recently presented to the city councils, still includes open spaces, seating, a small fitness area, an arm trainer that can also be used with a wheelchair, a play ship that the city already owns, and a floor trampoline and slackline, a pendulum seesaw that has already been financed and a climbing frame.

“A new addition is a water playground,” explained Niggl.

A simulated stream made of natural stones and stainless steel elements should provide fun.

Because the water has to be pumped to the system, drinking water quality is required.

“Public drinking fountains are in demand,” says Güldner, pleased that one is also planned.

Barrier-free access from B472

In addition, the Riviera should be given flat and therefore barrier-free access from the main road.

It leads from the existing underpass in a slight bend over the open meadow area, on which the streetball court, which could not be converted, was initially planned.

Half-height bollard lights - dimmable and with motion detectors - will provide enough light along the paths.

The redesign of the Riviera should begin with the replanting of trees that have already been donated, explained Niggl.

For the entire measure, she has named costs in the amount of 613,000 euros.

The city is hoping for grants from the EU Leader program.

Up to 200,000 euros could be had.

Funds may also be available for the drinking water fountain and bike racks.

Criticism from the Free Voters

The costs are still too high for the free voters. However, they expressly excluded Niggl's work from criticism. With ex-mayor Ingrid Pongratz it was agreed at the time not to overload the Riviera and to pay attention to the costs, Michael Lechner reminded of the line at the time. With the new mayor, a new dynamic has come in, he said: “Money no longer seems to play a role.” Lechner thinks that this is going well beyond a reasonable level. He would like to paint the water playground, for example.

His parliamentary colleague Markus Seemüller also criticized the fact that electricity is used there for pumps and drinking water.

“We also support the redesign, but we want it to be more moderate,” he said and made a corresponding request.

“What does moderate and sensible mean?” Asked CSU spokesman Pohl and dismissed the application as vague.

A vote on it was not necessary because the city councils had previously approved the plans presented against the votes of the FWG parliamentary group.
