The corona pandemic leaves its mark on every community.

Murnau is not left out.

But other places are hit harder.

Treasurer Josef Brückner emphasized this in the run-up to the budget consultations.

These start this Thursday evening.

Murnau

- The long-time Murnau treasurer Hubert Süß spoke of a "clear corona furrow" in October 2020. His successor Josef Brückner remains in the picture on Wednesday in the Tagblatt conversation.

"The corona furrow has not yet been completely dug up."

The budget deliberations begin today, Thursday, in Murnau.

Reason enough to take an up-to-date look at the finances.

"There are communities that have been hit a lot harder than Murnau," says Brückner.

The market town is more diverse.

So, for example, not completely focused on tourism like other places.

Nevertheless: The tax revenue in Murnau will not reach the level before Corona, says the treasurer.

He has significantly reduced the number of approaches compared to pre-pandemic times.

For the tourism contribution, for example, the rate has been reduced to EUR 610,000.

In terms of tourist tax, there were five-digit drops in 2021.

“Next year will definitely be difficult too,” says the financial expert.

Help for businesses

After the start of the pandemic, Markt Murnau launched a liquidity program for local businesses. In doing so, he foregoing income of around one million euros for a short time. The companies were deferred. "In the tourism sector, some people would not have survived without help," Brückner makes clear. To date, the municipality has helped around 100 companies. However, the demand is now falling significantly.

Meanwhile, the major projects are continuing on their way.

For the ongoing topic of “new building of a fire brigade building”, preliminary planning is to begin in 2022.

500,000 euros are earmarked for this.

The project, which is to be realized at the old fairground, is estimated at almost 11 million euros.

This already includes the disposal of contaminated sites.

It is not yet certain whether an underground car park will be built, says the treasurer.

It is well known that such a construction is expensive.

“Very likely” there will be an architectural competition.

The start of construction is targeted for 2024.

When it comes to daycare on Längenfeldweg, Markt Murnau wants to start planning in 2022.

"We hope that we can build in 2023," says the treasurer.

The total cost: 7.5 million euros.

Progress should also be made with regard to municipal housing on Bahnhofplatz. “We want to start construction in 2022 or 2023,” announces Murnau's master of finances. The local architecture firm Kottermair Rebholz has already received the order for the preliminary design. The project is estimated to cost a total of 2.5 million euros.

There are subsidies for the construction project.

Nevertheless, the Murnau market has to dig deep into its reserves to finance the whole thing.

They are expected to shrink to 650,000 euros by the end of 2024.

Significant borrowing is also planned for the years 2022 to 204.

It amounts to 6 million euros.

Debts are increasing: at the end of 2022 it will probably be 10.8 million euros, and at the end of 2024 it will be 13.5 million euros.

The free margin available for investments is around 880,000 euros.

Are there any debates to be expected?

"We have an ambitious investment volume," says Brückner.

“You can have different opinions about what to do first and what to do afterwards.

There will certainly be a need for discussion. "

One suggestion from the finance department is to put the parking guidance system on hold, starting in 2026.

There are no funds for this in Brückner's figures for 2022.

For the old post office, which belongs to the municipality, however, 100,000 euros are earmarked for planning costs.

Meetings

The municipal council will speak about the budget for 2022 on Thursday and Monday, November 8th, starting at 7 p.m. in the meeting room of the town hall.
