Around 20 corona infections have been recognized as work-related accidents by the NRW police.
A spokesman for the Ministry of the Interior said this when asked by the dpa.
According to dpa information, there are still more than 200 other applications.
In each individual case, the country must check whether the police officer was infected with Covid-19 while on duty.
Düsseldorf - The recognized cases are important news for the police union (GdP): If the infection is recognized as an accident at work, the country has to take over all medical follow-up measures according to the union - at a high standard.
This is like an accident at work in the private sector, in which the employers' liability insurance association (BG) steps in.

Fake vaccination certificate: man wants to steal certificate
The GdP is currently supporting two test cases in Lower Saxony in which police officers want to have their corona illness recognized as a work-related accident in court.
The problem: Affected police officers have to prove the causality between illness and duty themselves.
For GdP state chief Michael Mertens, the decisions in North Rhine-Westphalia therefore have "beacon character for all of Germany", as he told the dpa.
