Winter is slowly but surely arriving in Germany.

In the south, snow is expected as early as next week - and not just in the Alps.

Munich - If you let your gaze wander south on the edge of the Alps, then one or the other enthusiastic skier today should have lost a cry of joy.

Because the first mountain peaks are wrapped in white.

But the snow doesn't stop in the mountains.

Weather in Germany: "Please be careful in traffic"

However, the current low will have a particular impact on the Alpine passes: over a meter of fresh snow is expected within just 36 hours on both the Brenner Pass and the Gotthard Pass.

Meterologist Jan Schenk from wetter.com is already warning of “traffic obstructions due to massive snowfall”.

Drivers should find out about the situation on their own route in advance.

Towards the end of the week, the snow line in Germany should then fall to 500 meters.

So it can even snow in Munich on Thursday morning.

But you don't have to get the sled out in the Bavarian metropolis because “it won't stop,” explains Schenk.

Nevertheless, the weather expert has a warning for the region: "Please be careful in traffic, it can be very slippery."

The warning also applies to the rest of the country, because the low will then spread across Germany over the course of Friday.

In the east of the country in particular, heavy rainfall is to be expected, "up to 40 liters of rain per square meter are possible," explains Schenk in the video.

In combination with the still falling leaves of the trees, drivers should be particularly careful on Thursday mornings.

Not only will the temperatures be cold in the coming days, but also the mood between the Greens, the SPD and FDP in the current coalition negotiations *.
