The number of new infections reported daily reached a new high on Thursday morning (November 4th).
The health authorities reported 33,949 new corona cases to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) * within one day.
That is 172 more than on December 18, 2020. A week ago (October 28) the value was still 28,037 infections.

The nationwide seven-day incidence * was 154.5 on Thursday, according to the RKI.
The previous day the value was 146.6, a week ago it was 130.2.
It was initially unclear to what extent the All Saints holiday on Monday (November 1) played a role in the development of the numbers in five federal states.
At the previous high on December 18, 2020, 33,777 corona cases * were reported within 24 hours.
However, this included around 3500 late registrations from Baden-Württemberg from the previous day.
The previous record in the third wave of infections was 29,518 new infections on April 22, 2021.

Corona in Germany: The incidence of hospitalization is also increasing
The number of Corona * patients admitted to clinics per 100,000 inhabitants within seven days - the most important parameter for a possible tightening of the Corona restrictions - was given by the RKI on Wednesday as 3.62 (Tuesday: 3.29).
With the indicator, however, it must be taken into account that hospital admissions are sometimes reported with delay.
A nationwide threshold value from when the situation can be viewed critically is not provided for the incidence of hospitalization, among other things because of large regional differences.
The previous high was around 15.5 around Christmas last year.
In Bavaria, the corona rules have already been tightened due to the tense situation.
However, the measures are different in the individual federal states.
