The corona numbers in Germany continue to rise.

The RKI has now tightened its risk assessment.

There is also a gloomy forecast.

Berlin - Since the end of September there has been an increasing trend in the 7-day incidence in Germany.

In addition, the number of cases is currently “significantly higher” than was the case in the same period a year ago.

With these current ratings, the RKI is starting its latest weekly analysis of the corona situation in Germany.

Corona situation in Germany: "Sudden" increase, especially among ten to 14 year olds

The increase in the 7-day incidence in the age group of ten to 14-year-olds is particularly “leaps and bounds”.

Here the value is now 356 - in the previous week it was 240.

But even in the groups between five and 24 and between 40 and 44 years of age, the value is now over 200. In addition, the incidence in over half of the districts in Germany is over 100, in 65 even over 250.

"It is to be expected that the rise in the number of cases will continue in the further course of autumn and winter," predicts the RKI.

At the same time, the RKI again points out that, according to current knowledge, vaccination is an effective protection against serious infections.

As a result, the institute has now tightened its risk assessment for incompletely or not vaccinated people.

Now there is talk of a "very high" risk.

"For those who have been completely vaccinated, the risk is assessed as moderate, but increasing due to the increasing number of infections," it continues.

A week ago, the report described the risk for unvaccinated people as "high" and the risk for vaccinated people as "moderate".

The current development of the situation is "very worrying", it is now said.

RKI with Corona assessment: "Development very worrying"

"The current development of the situation is very worrying, and it is to be feared that there will be a further increase in serious illnesses and deaths and the available intensive care treatment capacities may be exceeded," the weekly report said.

A trend reversal is only possible if "general, non-pharmacological measures - such as wearing masks, maintaining the minimum distance, reducing contact, ventilating - quickly lead to a significant reduction in transmissions."

Due to the high risk of infection, these measures are currently also important for vaccinated and convalescent people in order to slow down the spread of the coronavirus and other pathogens such as influenza and thus prevent serious illnesses and deaths.

The RKI also points out that booster vaccinations can help.

Health Minister Jens Spahn reported an agreement on Thursday.

According to this, all people should in principle be able to get a booster vaccination.

This decision is also supported by extremely positive data from Israel.
