The city of Garching leases an additional area for the cooperative PV system.

Garching

- Bürger-Energie-Garching (BEG) can build their solar park on the A 9.

Not as big as the cooperative hoped, however.

The planned PV system requires a size of over two hectares from which it can be operated economically.

This was endangered when the federal autobahn GmbH insisted on a distance of 40 meters from the road, which would have left only 1.7 hectares of PV area (A; see graphic).

The facility can now move further west, for which the Garching city council has now given the green light, albeit with a time limit.

"Can't shackle us"

As a “maximum offer”, according to Mayor Dietmar Gruchmann (SPD), the city can offer the area (B) next to the sports facilities, around 6500 square meters, which the city will lease to the BEG for 15 years. For two other areas (C and D) “we cannot put on any shackles”, stressed Gruchmann. These are reserved as expansion areas for the new construction and recycling center. Especially the construction of the new recycling center is urging, the current one is only approved until 2028, 30,000 customers come per year and more should not be processed because of the noise protection. In order for employees and customers to be able to move around in the dry, it is essential to create improved conditions here in the form of covered halls. The 17 employees of the building yard are also working to the limit; they urgently need larger sanitary and social rooms.

According to the head of the building authority, Klaus Zettl, the first plans for both projects are to be initiated as early as 2024, and a corresponding space program has already been drawn up. These expansion areas are therefore under no circumstances to be rented out for more than 15 years. Gruchmann: “That is only possible for five years and with the option of extending it for a further year.” The BEG can already work economically with the sports area, “it can now decide for itself whether it wants to take the risk with the shorter term “, Says Gruchmann.

“Of course, we first have to accept this decision and now calculate precisely,” say the two BEG managing directors Dominik Eberle and Christian Nolte.

"The larger area would of course have been our wish." In January next year there will be an information event for the citizens, where both will then present concrete figures and want to win the citizens over to the cooperative.
