Getting up for the Schongau hospital - that is what a newly founded action group would like to achieve. It's about transparency. And that decisions are not made over the heads of the citizens.

Getting up for the Schongau hospital - that is what a newly founded action group would like to achieve.

It's about transparency.

And that decisions are not made over the heads of the citizens.

Schongau

- The SPD invited Schongau to the “Pro Krankenhaus Schongau” information event on Wednesday at the Ballenhaus - perhaps too short-term for one or the other interested citizen.

The timetable, however, how one could fight to maintain the Schongau hospital as a basic and standard provider, had been worked out very precisely in advance.

Walter Popp, local chairman of the SPD Schongau, made it clear that they wanted to get a ball rolling - non-partisan.

The people of Schongau, the citizens of the neighboring communities, preferably also supporters of the Weilheim hospital, should come together now.

Because: There are increasing signs that both hospitals could be threatened with extinction in favor of one large clinic.

A decision will be made on November 24th.

"We fully support our hospital and the workforce"

"We don't ignite, we fully support our Schongau hospital, as well as the workforce," Popp referred to the citizens' meeting six days ago, in which district administrator Andrea Jochner-Weiß tried to dispel the Schongau's fears.

Apparently she did not succeed in doing this.

"The district administrator began to ignite when she revealed her dreams of the central hospital in Peißenberg," Popp clarified.

Jochner-Weiß had stated that the Schongau hospital would not be closed, that the location would still be there in three years.

However, she failed to provide specific answers with reference to the upcoming decisions and the non-public (we reported).

Put an end to the "secrecy and the arrogant disregard of the heads of the citizens"

Popp called for transparency, but found clear words: "With the secrecy and the arrogant disregard for the heads of the citizens" must now be an end, one wants to participate in decision-making and not be presented with a fait accompli.

"The Schongau hospital in its form as a basic and standard provider must not be given up," emphasized Stefan Konrad, SPD city councilor and emergency paramedic.

He called for people to show their colors, to stand up for the preservation of the house in Schongau in its current form.

“The hospital is a public service, something the state owes its citizens.” He made it clear how important small hospitals are, not least with regard to the corona pandemic.

Mayor Falk Sluyterman is also demanding that the report be inspected, so far the content has only been known in a condensed form

Mayor Falk Sluyterman called for "insight into the report and more time".

The content was only presented to the district councils "in condensed form".

"It's about highly complex questions, you have to deal with the expert opinion in a very specific manner, and medical professionals even have a second opinion," says Sluyterman.

Friedrich Zeller, SPD city councilor and predecessor of the district administrator, put the costs involved in a large hospital in Memmingen at around 400 million euros.

"Such a central clinic here is not payable, otherwise we would be broke."

Publish reports, postpone decisions, inform citizens

The key points of the resolution were quickly formulated: The request is for the report to be published immediately and for the decision in the district council to be postponed until at least March 2022. The mayor of Schongau is also to convene an extraordinary citizens' meeting at which District Administrator Jochner-Weiß is to provide information. They also want to get the surrounding communities on board.

Regina Haugg, Irmgard Freimut, Tobias Fuhrmann, Johanna Hentschke, Willi Dedeke, Patricia Erhard, Stefan Konrad, Sabine Congiu and Walter Popp spontaneously registered for the action group with the provisional name “Pro Krankenhaus Schongau”.

Schongau's Vice Mayor Daniela Puzzovio (ALS) is also a member of the action group, which wants to meet for the first time this weekend to put the finishing touches to the resolution.

The paper is to be handed over to the district councilor and all district councilors at the next district council meeting on November 17th.

It was only at the beginning of October that the Schongau City Council unanimously passed a resolution for the preservation of the Schongau hospital.
