The agricultural project implemented by the Al-Bir Association and Social Services in Al-Hasakah, with the support of the UNHCR, targets the people of the governorate’s countryside to support livelihoods for citizens returning to their homes from which they were displaced during the past years as a result of terrorism.

The project works to empower the targeted families who depend on agriculture and animal husbandry by supporting them with production requirements that enable them to establish their own small projects that provide them with job opportunities and improve their standard of living by selling surplus production.

In a statement to SANA reporter, Sheikhmus Muhammad Ali, the project manager stated that it aims, according to specific regulations, to support families that were not previously targeted with the requirements of beekeeping and families who work in growing vegetables with improved vegetable seeds, fertilizers and drip irrigation networks, in addition to installing hormonal sponges for sheep.

He pointed out that beekeepers were supported by providing inhabited beehives and supplies to 40 beekeepers, accompanied by providing all instructions for taking care of the beehives and protecting them from intruders and during periods of cold, frost and high temperatures and providing antibiotics to secure a stable source of income for the beekeepers by selling the produced honey.

He explained that small farmers were supported by providing seeds, fertilizers, sprinklers, modern irrigation networks, vegetable production requirements, water submersibles and submersible supplies to operate surface wells, with the aim of encouraging them to invest the land and helping rural residents to settle and secure a source of livelihood for them.

The project manager pointed out that hormonal sponges were installed for 450 sheep belonging to thirty beneficiaries from the rural areas of Al-Hasakah and Qamishli, and some types of vitamins were provided to improve fertility and enhance the reproductive health of sheep, as well as fodder rich in minerals and vitamins necessary to feed the vaccinated sheep, which enabled the breeders to restore their livelihoods under the circumstances. Difficulties experienced in raising livestock, such as drought and lack of food necessary for their growth and health.

The beneficiary, Fahd Kreis, who owns agricultural land in the village of Mushairfa Al-Shaer, explained that he benefited from the agricultural project implemented by the Al-Bir Society, as it provided him with a submersible to operate the water well, the drip network and seeds for planting the vegetable season, which contributes to securing his family’s need for agricultural foodstuffs, selling surplus production and providing financial liquidity for him and his family .

The beneficiary, Muhammad Al-Hamoud from the Qamishli countryside, indicated that he benefited from the support provided in the field of sheep breeding by installing hormonal sponges for the sheep he owns, and the accompanying distribution of fodder materials and veterinary medicines that contribute to improving production and increasing the number of births in his sheep holdings.
