On the occasion of the October holidays, the Swimming Association held a carnival festival for long swimming from the southern corniche area in Lattakia to Projim Maalla Beach in Jableh, with the participation of world champions Marwan Saleh and Ahmed Hussein and 17 swimmers.
In a statement to SANA, the head of the technical committee for swimming, Muhammad Zidan, said that the participants in the long-distance relay race set off at 6:30 this morning and traveled a distance of 20 kilometers to reach the city of Jableh (Projim Maalla Club), explaining that each swimmer swims for 15 minutes and rests so that his teammate continues to continue the track. towards the finish line.
World Champion Jalal Zidan said that the festival is more than wonderful and is an opportunity to see his companions, the world champions for long swimming, who came after him to live the memories he spent with them during participation in the world championships.
Ahmed Al-Hussein, in turn, explained that this race is a sports carnival and a wonderful social situation with the world champions, the sons of Jableh and its old swimmers, and this is the beginning of future races.
For his part, the world champion Marwan Saleh revealed that this carnival brought him back to the days of participating in foreign tournaments and raising the flag of Syria in international forums at the time.
Al-Hussein participated in many world championships in long-distance swimming races and won many titles, most notably the first place in the world championship in the Capri di Napoli race in 1988 and the silver of the Arab Championship in 1992, while the world champion Marwan Saleh became famous in the Capri di Napoli races in 1969, 1970 and 1971 by achieving the position The first and his brilliance in the Canadian and Argentine races and the international races in Cairo.
