China today announced its strong opposition to the politicization of sports and called on the United States not to fabricate false news and disinformation to discredit it and influence the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics.
In response to media reports about the US State Department urging China not to restrict freedom of movement and access to journalists and to ensure that they remain able to write freely, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin said, "Beijing has welcomed media from all countries to follow and cover the Winter Olympics." Since the start of preparations for hosting it,” he added, “more than 2,500 journalists and photographers have submitted applications for registration so far.”
"The organizing committee briefed the media on the preparations through media sessions, press conferences and other means, so as to provide better services for the media," Wang said, stressing that the Beijing Organizing Committee for the Winter Olympics will guarantee journalists freedom of coverage, and that Beijing will always facilitate and help foreign journalists in Coverage of news reports.
Beijing will host the Winter Olympics from February 4-20.
