Vienna - Heavy snowfall in the Alps brought some motorists into trouble.

The Tyrolean Brenner motorway A13 had to be closed for around two hours on Monday evening (November 1st).

There were traffic jams.

At 8.30 p.m. the Brenner motorway was a “snowy road”, reports the ORF.

Vehicles got stuck on the snow-covered Brenner motorway.

Trucks could not go any further and had to be towed away with tractors.

Even on the federal highways, it was no longer possible for some.

In some cases, vehicles were on the road with summer tires despite winter conditions, according to the Schönberg autobahn police, as reported by ORF.

One problem: The snow plows couldn't get through because of the narrow lane at a construction site and the traffic jam and then had to take the main road.

At around 10.30 p.m. the road could be opened again.

There could be no talk of “chaos”, said Klaus Gspan from the autobahn maintenance department on ORF.

Winter tires have been compulsory in Austria since November 1st.

More snowfalls have been announced there for Thursday.
