Miesbach - The Miesbach city council has given the go-ahead for the new construction of the ailing Schopfgrabenbrücke, which leads over the Schlierach in the north of the district town.

The construction costs for the renovation are now estimated at 1.2 million euros.

A year ago it was 1.1 million euros (we reported).

Engineer and authorized signatory Maximilian Jakob from the Munich office ILP2 Lankes Prust, which has a branch in Miesbach, recently presented to the city council exactly what the new bridge should look like. The expert left no doubt that the structure is rusting and can no longer be saved.

At the same time, the new, low-maintenance bridge should also be better designed for possible flood situations. That is why the new building is being built 65 centimeters higher and also designed to be streamlined. "We want to raise the bridge as high as possible and increase the flow," explained Jakob. Jakob replied that possible damage from ice push, which according to Michael Lechner (FWG) was observed in the past winter, is still possible. However, this is not a fundamental problem, since the edge of the bridge is just as subject to wear and tear as the railing and can be replaced in isolation.

While Mayor Gerhard Braunmiller (CSU) classified the measure as important and necessary, Markus Seemüller (FWG) warned that residents should be well informed and involved in the process in view of the seven-month restrictions caused by the construction.

According to Braunmiller, this is planned.

For drivers, however, difficulties cannot be avoided.

According to Jakob, a makeshift bridge for vehicle traffic is not planned - the site is too narrow for that.

A makeshift crossing will only be set up for pedestrians and cyclists who cannot take the detour via Untere Wies.

The schedule for the new building looks like this: The tender should run until the beginning of 2022.

After the submission in mid-January, work is scheduled to start at the end of March.

The old bridge is to be demolished at the end of April.

Associated with this is the diversion of vehicle traffic via the Untere Wies.

The substructure of the new bridge will - as of now - be built between May 11th and August 1st.

The bridge construction will follow from July 25th to September 21st.

The roads will then be connected by October 12th and the temporary bridge for pedestrians and cyclists dismantled.

The aim is to open the new bridge to regular traffic on October 12th.
